The day I found this buffet started out like most. I had my coffee, fed the kiddos, and was perusing local listings for treasures. I was looking mostly out of habit. I had several pieces painted & ready for new homes, several others in my shop storage ready for their makeovers, and I had eluded to the Mr. that I would not be fostering any more pieces until I had finished raising the ones I'd already brought home. I hadn't actually promised that I wouldn't...
Here are the photos from that listing. It had Lion head pulls, Flower detailing, and PAWS!!!! It also read "reduced" in the title. Yes, I am a sucker for a deal.
I went out, brought her home to meet the others, and had to get the Mr. to help me unload because it is extremely heavy! When He saw it, he totally understood! He just gets me like that. Swoon!!!
What he doesn't always get, is my love of COLOR. He said, I like this, you should paint it black... To comfort him, I said black is nice...I will consider it...and in all fairness I did consider it!!
I gave her a thorough cleaning, bandaged a few wounds from her past life, and waited for the Mr. to go out of town for work. When he is away I don't always sleep easy. I work instead.
I love black, but this piece was just magnificent and called for a bold color choice. Honestly it was the king of the jungle & remember those paws!!! So I chose Sailor, from our Pure Home Paints line for the body. WOWZA!!!
Then to really drive the bold statement piece home I updated the pulls & highlighted the details with our Bronze Metallic Opulence.
The Mr. is starting to trust my intuition! This piece was reserved for purchase the same day that it was listed & picked up the day the Mr. returned home. They can't all be Big, Blue, and Bold. But sometimes they just must be.
A punch of red can elevate the energy of a room and feed that same energetic passion to the the space. While many would go neutral when faced with indecision...I tend to go bold & red is so universally loved that it is always a winner!
Are you a follow your intuition or a follow the rules person?
I am such a follow the rules person, except when it comes to my art . This buffet had the usual scratches, dings, and bumps that made it's past owner ready to get rid of it rather than take on a makeover project. I was over the moon excited by all of the details.
