Our Inspiration Never Grow Up Pink Painted Vanity

I am not one for naming furniture pieces but this vanity is named Taylor, after Taylor Swift. A fun coincidence, I finished this vanity on 11/10/17. The same day that Taylor’s latest album, Reputation, released.
Let’s make that all make more sense. There is a family of pinks that my girls and I refer to as Taylor Swift Pinks. This comes from dresses she’s worn over time. The timeless combination of both demure and sass we see as her public persona. And, the sweet nostalgia gleaned from her early songs. Taylor Swift Pinks are warm dusty pinks.
Our Taylor Vanity is the furniture version of this dress, red carpet Taylor Swift.
Making Our Never Grow Up Pink
I work with the Kristi Kuehl, Pure Home Paints & Finishes product line. I love so many things about this line! In this case, there was not a pink color that was right for what I had in mind.
I mixed one up. I took our Cranberry & kept adding Vintage Lace until I got the color I was looking for.
My best advice when mixing colors is to start with a small sample & use a measuring tool. I use a set of baking spoons and level them off so my amounts are close to the same. You can also just add and wing it, it won’t be as easy to reproduce the color though.
In this case, I started with a teaspoon of Cranberry & added Vintage Lace one teaspoon full at a time. I like to keep a paper to put a fingerprint sample of the color and the mix that got me there as I go.

Repeat until you get to your color.
This color ended up 1 part Cranberry: 10 parts Vintage Lace. You could buy an 8oz Cranberry & a pint of Vintage Lace. Then either scoop out 6 oz of Vintage Lace (you will need a container like a clean sauce jar or these wide mouth glass jars) And then add in 1 oz of Cranberry to your leftover 10 oz in the container. Mix well to incorporate the color throughout. You can also add 1.6 oz of Cranberry to your 16 oz Vintage Lace. With the latter, you would still need a larger container to mix in.
I Googled the ratios to make sure I was explaining them right…Don’t do that! I found an argument on dilution vs ratios and ended up wildly confused, and a little cross-eyed. Use 1 measurement of one to 10 of the other and you should get this color.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with your mixing. You can combine several colors to get the perfect shade. Start with small amounts and follow the steps above to keep the ratios for when you make a larger usable batch.
Taylor on the Red Carpet
Here is our after. Never Grow Up Pink with Blush German Glass Glitter added to the feet. You cannot hit the red carpet without your perfect shoes. {wink}
When I look at this vanity I can feel the little girl wearing her mommy’s heels & pearls. The graduation to her lipstick. And, the eventual reflection of a woman who looks much like her mom.
“Oh, darling don’t you ever grow up,
Don’t you ever grow up,
Just stay this little.”
